For my BFA Thesis, I want to explore the ideas of identity as it applies to alternative and street art. I want to build a fake brick wall and install it in my space and then create and 3D animation to project onto it. The animation will not so much follow a narrative but be a passive animation showing individuals throwing up their art on the wall and then turning to reveal who they are and then leave frame. Having many characters interact with the wall and periodically have a form of law enforcement come and paint over it or wash it away. Conceptually I want it to be about individual’s identities and how they express themselves. Depending on how the projector works on a brick wall I may paint it over in white like someone was trying to cover it. I want to animate in a 3D environment but render it more cartoon style because I think it will read better on the wall.
For production I will take reference footage with my Canon Rebel T3i. I will then use maya to animate. I’m still debating if I want to use premade open source characters and rigs or if I should build my own. I would love to build my own. But I will then build a faux brick wall.

Rachel, need to add the critique / midterm dates. Also, you need to break down the production by WHAT you do (tasks) - storyboard, style development, video shoots, rotoscoping, editing, etc. - what you have on the calendar is not very useful. The diagram needs measurements and equipment in the picture- where does the audience stand? This concept has a lot of potential, but you really need to figure out the WHY - why graffiti, why is it self expression, what is it's history - in pop culture as well as art? Then, aside from looking more interesting, what do you gain conceptually with having a brick wall in the gallery? We know it isn't a real building wall, so what does it add? figure all of that out! - Heather
